Testing has remained a key focus area for modern agile development methodologies, such as Continuous Integration (CI). This quantitative report surveyed over 500+ technology professionals in a variety of roles, company sizes, industries and regions to uncover how modern software testing approaches have changed.
Key insights include:
- Almost all respondents reported a change in testing since the adoption of agile or CI environments, with an increase in the level of automated testing (69%) and testing earlier in the development cycle (61%)
- Compared to those using traditional approaches, agile or CI testers reported doing more of almost every kind of testing -- with the exception of manual testing (68% of agile testers performed manual testing, versus 81% of manual testers).
- Mobile testing embraces both web applications used in mobile browsers (89%) as well as native or hybrid mobile apps (53%), but there is no universal approach
- Over 3/4 of respondents test across mobile and web browsers, though less than half test versions older than the current browser
